Taxes

Revenue collected by RevenueSA through taxes is used by the government to fund the provision of essential services including:

  • public health and safety
  • education
  • law and order for South Australian citizens.

Land tax

RevenueSA is responsible for the collection of land tax under the Land Tax Act 1936, the Taxation Administration Act 1996 and associated Regulations.

RevenueSA provides calculators to determine land tax amounts, as well as legislation guides and information about exemptions.

Payroll tax

Payroll tax is payable by any employer (or group of employers) with a wages bill in excess of $600 000 for services rendered by employees anywhere in Australia if any of those services are rendered or performed in South Australia.

Betting Operating Tax

The betting operations tax, effective from 1 July 2017, is a consumption tax of 15% on the Net Wagering Revenue (NWR) of betting companies offering services to South Australia. 

All bets placed in South Australia with Australian-based betting companies will be liable for the tax.
